The Classic Air Rallye is above all an event for you! Any of you that can remember back to the Carp shows in the eighties know what we mean! Unique, fun events that above all took care of the pilots - the rest followed naturally. That's the goal of this event. With the incomparable backdrop and support of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum we want to make this a weekend in the calendar where you, the aircraft owners and pilots, know you can come and have a good time, show off your planes to each other and those members of the public keen enough to come out, and maybe learn a little. And if you would like to take part in the fly-bys on either day that's OK too.
As you know the museum has an amazing collection of flying machines, but unfortunately now they have to remain static. That's where our event comes in - for one wonderful weekend of the year we want to reinstate a flying dimension where you the participants and the public can see and feel the dynamism of our aviation heritage. By bringing your aircraft you can be part of this recreation. Our interpretation of "Classic" is very loose - basically pre 1970 - if you are keen, and your aircraft is interesting - that's good enough for us! We already have commitments from dozens of between-the-wars era aircraft, and from the post war classics period. Michael Potter's Vintage Wings is lending their ever-generous and unstinting support with participating aircraft from his collection on the ground and with warbirds during the display. This year we even have jets for the first time, and interesting military participation that falls within the spirit of the event.
And just to provide a little incentive, and maybe establish a tradition, we will be continuing the series of low-key and light-hearted awards for notable participation!
So, we would love to have you at our event. If you would like to formally participate please contact our aircrew coordinator Michel Coté at michel.cote@pwgsc.gc.ca or Flightworks President Ben Loiselle at (613) 829-2203.
If you are interested in being a fly-in visitor on either day, please keep checking this site for details. The airport will be NOTAMed for a period around the display hours. See VFR Procedures on the downloads page for details. The Rockliffe Flying Club will be handling visiting aircraft, but as the airport fills up with scheduled participants we may have to limit fly-ins, so keep checking with us. If possible please bring your own tie-downs and chocks.
All pilots please note! Rockcliffe (CYRO) has a complex airspace, sandwiched between the Ottawa control zone and Gatineau's airspace, and with a VFR corridor alongside. Please consult the CFS for the correct procedures. US pilots see Downloads for a recent copy of the procedure. Noise abatement is of vital importance! Please note and comply with the requirements in the CFS.
All participating pilots please keep checking this page for procedural updates, and VFR Procedures on the Downloads page for arrival, parking and departure procedures.
