Centennial Wings over the Capital

On February 23rd 1909, Canada entered the air age with the flight of the Silver Dart on a frozen lake in Baddeck Nova Scotia. To commemorate the Canadian Centennial of Flight, Flightworks in collaboration with the NCC staged an extraordinary winter event. On Saturday, February 21st Flightworks presented:

Centennial Wings over the Capital

Coinciding with the 3rd and final weekend of Winterlude, the event featured flybys of aircraft over the Rideau Canal Skateway.

A formation of 3 CF-18 Hornets will provide an exciting close to the event. This event will mark the debut of the 2009 Demonstration CF-18 in its Centennial of Flight colours. CF-18 in Centennial Colors

This event took place at 1:00 p.m. and was blessed by an unusually bright mild and sunny day. The aircraft  followed a route from the Champlain Bridge to Dow's Lake, then follow the Rideau Canal past Landsdowne Park, the University of Ottawa, Ottawa City Hall and Confederation Park. The aircraft crossed the Ottawa river and overfly Jacques-Cartier park and departed to the east.
